Screening
Method

1. Take an EJU test before you apply.
2. Submit an EJU examination voucher and other application documents.
3. Take the Ochanomizu University Entrance Examination. (exc. the Department of Physics)
Screening is carried out based on the application documents including the EJU examination voucher and the results of the Ochanomizu University Entrance Examination.

Applicants for the Department of Physics must take a TOEFL test instead of the Ochanomizu University Entrance Examination. The screening is carried out based on the application documents including EJU examination voucher and TOEFL scores.
Applicants for the Department of Nutrition and Food Science must take a TOEFL test in addition to an EJU test and the Ochanomizu University Entrance ecxamination.

・ Lectures for undergraduate programmes at Ochanomizu University are conducted in Japanese.
Applicants who desire to apply for the undergraduate course must have sufficient Japanese competence for the lectures.

2. Admissions Eligibility

Applicants must be women who a) do not hold Japanese citizenship, b) either possess or are able to obtain the Status of Residence of  “Student” according to the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act, c) fall under the following categories (1) and (2) .

(1) Those who meet one of the following criteria:
 ① a) completed or are expected to complete 12 years of formal education in a foreign country by 31 March 2024 or b) have a certificate equivalent to the above-mentioned education and designated by the Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. (MEXT)
 ② hold the International Baccalaureate Diploma, which is granted from the International Baccalaureate Organization based on the Swiss Civil Code. 
 ③ hold the Abitur, which is recognised as a qualification for university enrolment in all German states. 
 ④ hold the  French Baccalauréat, which is recognised as a qualification for university enrolment in France. 
 ⑤ hold the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level, which is recognised as a qualification for university enrolment in the U.K.

(2) Those who have taken an Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) administered by Japan Student Services Organization.  (JASSO)
Please refer to the table below for the necessary subjects.

Note

Applicants who left a Japanese high school or hold a qualification which is equivalent-to or higher-than completion of a Japanese high school course cannot apply to this examination.

     ‣ Confirm the applications guidebook for Special Entrance Examination for Privately Funded International Students and prepare application documents.
     ‣ Take an EJU test.
     ‣ Take a TOEFL test. (Applicants for the Department of Physics and the Department of Nutrition and Food Science )
  2. Application (1- 8 December 2023)
     ‣ Pay an examination fee
     ‣ Submit application documents
  3. Ochanomizu University Entrance Examination (25, 26 February 2024, except the Department of Physics) 

3-1. Before Application

  • Results of the 2023 EJU First Session (June) and the Second Session (November) are valid.
  • Applicants for the Faculty of Letters and Education, the Department of Human Life Studies and the Department of Psychology of the Faculty of Human Life and Environmental Science, and the Department of Humanities Data Engineering of the Faculty of Transdisciplinary Engineering must take either Mathematics Course 1 or Course 2.
  • Please choose Japanese as the examination language.

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

Applicants for the Department of Physics and the Department of Nutrition and Food Science must take a TOEFL test. 

Official Scores to be submitted

Applicants must submit following two types of scores.

  1. Official Score Reports
    Official Score Reports are the scores sent directly to universities from ETS.
    Applicants must take proocedures so that Ochanomizu University can receive your scores. 
  2. Test Taker Score Report
    Test taker Score Report is the score sent from ETS to test takers.
    In order to receive this score, it is necessary to choose "Online score report and a paper copy mailed to you" when applying to a TOEFL test.
    Applicants must submit this score when applying.
How to submit the Official Score Reports
  • Take the necessary procedures so that ETS can send your Official Score Reports directly to Ochanomizu University.
  • DT code is required to take the procedures. DT code for Ochanomizu University is 7224. No additional department codes are needed.
  • If you did not complete the above procedures when applying for TOEFL, you need to contact ETS for issuing the Official Score Reports.
  • The Official Score Reports arriving at Ochanomizu University from 1 April to 30 November, 2022 are valid.
Note

Posting the Official Score Reports to Ochanomizu university takes 6-8 weeks after the date of test. Please make a plan with enough time.

3-2. Application

Application Period

Fri, 1 to Fri, 8 December 2023

Please ensure application documents arrive within the application period.
Documents that are postmarked Thu, 7 December or earlier in Japanese post office and sent by registered express post are accepted even if the deadline has passed.

Application Documents

(1)* Application form, exam admission ticket, photo ticket

(2) Certificate of (expected) graduation, academic transcript, letter of recommendation

The certificate of (expected) graduation and the accademic transcript must be issued by the last school sttended, and the letter of recommendation must be written by a teacher at the last school attended.
The original and the Japanese translation are necessary for each document.

Applicants applying based on International Baccalaureate Diploma, Abitur, French Baccalauréat or GCE A-level must submit a copy of the certificate instead.

(3) Japanese essay

A handwritten essay of less than 1000 words describing the purpose of studying abroad, contents of research field, future plan etc.
Please be sure to write your name on the essay.

(4) Copy of the examination voucher of EJU
(5)* Application form for proficiency test (only Applicants for the Department of Performing Art)
(6) TOEFL Test Taker Score Report (only applicants for the Department of Physics and the Department of Nutrition and Food Science )

(7) Official documents necessary for identification

Applicants living in Japan as of the application must submit Certificate of Items Stated in Resident Register and a copy of a residence card.
Applicants living in a foreign country as of the application must submit a copy of an official certificate such as a birth certificate, a passport, or a family register.

Every faculty except for the Department of Physics assigns an oral exam.
