* A"cooperative major"is a major operated under a joint system of education program. The Cooperative Major in Human Centered Engineering is done in partnership with Nara Women's Universiry, allowing both institutions to take advantage of their mutual educational and research resources.

1. Application Method

Put all required application documents in the designated university envelope and submit them by registered express mail to the address indicated below within the indicated application period. Applications will only be accepted by registered express mail.

Application documents must arrive at the university by the final day of the application period.
Incomplete application packages will not be accepted. Please ensure that all necessary documents are included. Once the application package is submitted, under no circumstances will Ochanomizu University accept changes, return documents or refund the application screening fee.

2. Eligibility

The applicant must be a woman who a) does not hold Japanese citizenship, b) either possesses, or is able to obtain a Status of Residence of ”Student” according to the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act, and c) falls under any one of the following categories.

(1) A person who has graduated or is expected to graduate a university by March 2024 (i.e., person who has received a bachelor’s degree or will receive such a degree by March 31, 2025). See Note 1.

(2) A person who has received (or will receive by March 2025) a bachelor’s degree from the National Institution for Academic Degrees and Quality Enhancement of Higher Education (NIAD-QE).

(3) A person who has completed (or will complete by March 2025) 16 years of formal education in a foreign country.

(4) A person who has received (or will receive by March 2025) a degree while in Japan through a distance education program at an overseas school that would be considered as having completed 16 years of formal education in that country.

(5) A person who has received (or will receive by March 2025) a bachelor’s degree from a foreign university based in Japan (limited to degrees that would be considered as having completed 16 years of formal education in that country) that is also recognized by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as an educational institution.

(6) A person who has completed (or will complete by March 2025) the specialized curriculum of an advanced vocational school (limited to schools with programs of four years or more that has also met other standards set by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) as such.

(7) A person designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Ministry of Education Notification No. 5 of 1928).

(8) A person recognized through screening at the applicable graduate school at Ochanomizu University as having academic abilities equivalent to or above a university graduate and who will be at least 22 years of age on March 31, 2025.

• Note 1: Category (1) refers to Japanese universities as defined in the School Education Act. Eligibility under Category (3) is determined on the basis of whether an applicant has completed 16 years of formal education in a foreign country or not.
• Note 2: Individuals who have graduated from a Japanese high school must apply according to the admission procedures for Japanese applicants.

1. ※ Applicants wishing to take the entrance exam under category (2) through (8) above should inquire in advance to the Admissions Division before applying.
   Applicants wishing to take the entrance exam under category (8) must undergo a pre-application qualification screening.
   Applicants under category (8) who have graduated from a junior college (three-year system or less), technical college, vocational school, etc. or a Japan branch school of a foreign university that does not fall under (5) or (6), will be considered as not having graduated from university (i.e., not conferred a bachelor’s degree).

3. Required Documents

1	Application form Exam admission ticket/photo	Designated Ochanomizu University application form Two copies of the same 4.5 x 3.5cm photo taken within three months of the application submission (affix to the designated location on the application form).
2	Certificate of Graduation or Certificate of Expected Graduation	A certification prepared by the head of the last school attended. (Copies are not acceptable. Applicants who graduated from a foreign university and only have the actual diploma submit a copy of the diploma that has been notarized or certified by an embassy or other public institution, or have the original diploma certified by Ochanomizu's Admissions Department. Applicants who have graduated from a university in China should refer to ※2.)
3	Graduation thesis (as required)
4	Research report (as required)	(Use the designated Ochanomizu University form)
5	Research plan (as required)	(Use the designated Ochanomizu University form)
6	Academic transcript	Original transcript issued by the dean or rector of the home university (copies are not acceptable).
7	TOEIC official score, TOEFL official score or IELTS score (as required)
8	JLPT Level 1 or N1 certificate (as required)	Level 1 or N1 certificate (Japanese-Language Proficiency Test Certificate of Result and Scores) from Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES) or the Japan Foundation (IAJ in Taiwan). Please provide the original certificate. Copies are not accepted.
9	Copy of the Resident Register	Issued by the applicant’s resident municipality in Japan. If you do not have a resident register at the time of application, provide a copy of the passport details page (name, date of birth, gender) and the page showing the Status of Residence or Japanese visa.
10	Examination fee (transfer payment slip)	30,000 yen+ (Payable by bank transfer at a financial institution other than JP Bank ; the transfer fee is the responsibility of the applicant) The name of the examinee must be indicated as the Name of Remitter. After paying the fee, the stamped part of the slip (納入済票)(proof of paying out) should be affixed to the prescribed location the back of the application form. *In principle, the fee is not required for international students on Japanese government scholarships provided that the applicant has applied to extend the period of scholarship payments by applying to attend Ochanomizu University. In such cases, the applicant should also provide the MEXT scholarship certificate.
11	Return envelope for the entrance examination ticket	Please fill in your address on the designated envelope and affix 444 yen in stamps (94 yen for standard mail + 350 yen for registered mail ).
12	Mailing label	Required for mailing letter of acceptance. Use an address where you can readily be reached.

※1 Note that the required documents differ according to specialization/course. Please confirm details in the application guidelines. Inquiries should be directed to the Admissions Division.
※2 Please request the following certifications (English version only) from the China Higher Education Student Information and Career Center (CHSI) in China or the CHSI China Academic Credentials and Student Registration Certification Center Japan Representative Office in Japan.
For graduates: (Online) Verification Report of Higher Education Qualification Certificate and (Online) Verification Report of Higher Education Degree Certificate
For expected graduates: (Online) Verification Report of Student Certificate
As a basic rule, an original certificate from the issuing organization should be submitted. An A4-size printout will be accepted only when an online certificate is the only issuing option available.

4. Guidelines

Our application forms are not posted on the website. Therefore, applicants need to have the application package including the guideline and the application forms sent by mail.
