To-do list by student status

Congratulations on your admission to Ochanomizu University.
Please check the procedures to follow between admission and enrollment according to your program.
Additionally, you are recommended to take out travel accident insurance before leaving your home country for Japan.

Undergraduate students

Student status To-do list
Undergraduate students Eligibility notification to enrollment
Eligibility notification The following are ways to confirm whether or not you have passed the entrance exam and been admitted into the university.
  • School Bulletin Board (located at the university’s South Gate)
  • University Website (the period when results will be announced is noted on the website)
  • Letter of Acceptance sent by mail
Follow-up admission procedures You will receive admission procedures-related documents by mail. Fill out and return the necessary documents by the specified deadline.
Obtain passport You need a passport issued by the government of your home country. You cannot enter Japan without it.
Obtain visa Please apply for a visa in person at a Japanese embassy or consulate in your home country.
Apply for exemption from admission and/or tuition fees If you wish to apply, read the website’s “Exemption from admission and/or tuition fees, and/or postponement of collection of admission and/or tuition fees section” and download and submit the necessary documents within the specified period.
Apply for student housing If you wish to apply, read the “Eligibility for Student Housing” section in the Application Guidelines, download the necessary documents from the website, and submit them within the specified period.
After enrollment
Make bank transfer of admission and tuition fees
Apply for scholarship
These are procedures to follow after enrollment.

Master’s students

Student status To-do list
博士前期課程 Eligibility notification to enrollment
Eligibility notification Announcements are made in early September for students enrolling in October, and in early February for students enrolling in April.

Exchange students

Student status To-do list
Exchange students Eligibility notification (admission notice) April enrollment: Notices are given through the partner university around December of the previous year.
October enrollment: Notices are given through the partner university around the end of June.
Follow admission Admission and tuition fees are waived by agreement.
Obtain passport You need a passport issued by the government of your home country. You cannot enter Japan without it.
Apply for Certificate of Eligibility Ochanomizu University will submit an application on your behalf.
You will receive necessary documents through the partner university by Express Mail Service (EMS) or another service that can be tracked.
Details will be notified by e-mail.
Obtain visa After your Certificate of Eligibility for Residence Status is issued, apply for a visa in person at a Japanese embassy or consulate in your home country.
Apply for lodging at the International Student House No application is necessary. Housing is provided by agreement. (A fee will be charged.)

Research students

Admission notice to enrollment
Admission notice 4April enrollment: Notices are given by mail around the end of December of the previous year.
October enrollment: Notices are given by mail around the end of July.
Follow-up admission procedures Please pay admission fee: For students enrolling in April, payment is due within the specified period (as indicated in your Letter of Acceptance) in the specified account. For students enrolling in October, please pay by mid-August (as indicated in your Letter of Acceptance) in the specified account.
Receive Certificate of Admission: After your payment of admission fee is confirmed, a Certificate of Admission is issued.
Obtain passport You need a passport issued by the government of your home country. You cannot enter Japan without it.
Apply for Certificate of Eligibility For applicable students, Ochanomizu University will submit an application on your behalf. Submit the specified necessary documents to the university. You will receive your Certificate of Eligibility issued by the Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau by Express Mail Service (EMS) or another service that can be tracked.
Obtain visa After your Certificate of Eligibility for Residence Status is issued, apply for a visa in person at a Japanese embassy or consulate in your home country. (Applicable students only).
Renew residence status For students already residing in Japan on a visa other than “Student,” change your status to “Student” after enrollment.
Take your Letter of Acceptance and Certificate of Admission as evidence to the Immigration Bureau, and follow the procedures to change or renew your residence status.
Contract for a private apartment or similar Research students are not eligible for university student housing. Please find your own private apartment.
The university will not mediate between you and any agent.

Japanese Studies Student (NIKKENSEI)

Student status To-do list
Japanese Studies Student (NIKKENSEI) Admission notice October enrollment: Notices are given by mail around the end of July.
Follow admission procedures Admission and tuition fees are waived.
Obtain passport You need a passport issued by the government of your home country. You cannot enter Japan without it.
Obtain visa You need to apply for a visa in person at a Japanese embassy or consulate in your home country.
Apply for lodging at the International Student House No application is necessary. Housing is provided by agreement. (A fee will be charged.)
