Japan Society for the Promotion of Science selects Nahoko Kuroki as an Ikushi Prize winner

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) has selected Nahoko Kuroki, a second-year doctoral student in our university’s Graduate School of Humanities and Sciences, Advanced Science division as one of the recipients of its eighth Ikushi Prize (2017).
 
The JSPS selects 18 recipients from among 152 doctoral students recommended by the heads of universities and academic societies each year. Having a student from our university among those chosen as a recipient of this splendid award is a first for the sciences at Ochanomizu University. We congratulate Ms. Kuroki on her brilliant achievement.

About the JSPS Ikushi Prize

Emperor Akihito granted the JSPS an endowment in 2009 during the twentieth year of his reign in the midst of a harsh socioeconomic environment to fund programs to support and encourage young researchers engaging in studies and research. This prize was established in 2010 in response to his wishes. The Ikushi Prize is intended to celebrate the achievements of outstanding graduate school PhD students expected to contribute to the advancement of scholarly research in Japan, with the goal of increasing their enthusiasm for their studies and research as part of efforts to train young researchers. Eligible candidates are graduate students in all fields related to the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance in graduate school, are endowed with a richness of spirit, and approach their studies and research efforts enthusiastically and independently.
