New Student Commons Opens!

18.03.2016 Update

Recognizing that its aging student union needed to be replaced rather than repaired, Ochanomizu University built a new student commons designed to meet student needs and create a safe and comfortable space for extracurricular activities. The student commons is a two-story building with a total area of 928 square meters. The first floor features a lounge, administrative office, printing office, staff kitchens, beverage vending machine station, three studios suitable as small conference rooms, a Japanese-style room and Kiin Festival Committee meeting room. Student-proposed names have been given to each room.

On the second floor, visitors will find multipurpose room 1 (a large conference room) and multipurpose room 2 (a medium-sized conference room), which can be used for piano recitals, dance practice and small seminars, as well as two soundproof studios for enjoying music. The facility also has universal access restrooms to accommodate wheelchair users on the first floor. The facility is fully Internet-connected, and offers WiFi access. Students, faculty and staff can use this space for extracurricular activities.
