Ochanomizu University graduate Reiko Kuroda is selected for a UN Advisory Committee

Prof. Kroda

Reiko Kuroda, graduate of the Ochanomizu University Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, was selected as a member of a committee of scientists, newly established by the UN for advising on policy-making.
At a press conference held at MEXT (The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) on October 21, 2013, Kuroda said, “I don’t know why I was chosen, and I was surprised. Now that I have been chosen, I will do my best to commit to both roles (as committee member and researcher).”
The committee will provide scientific advice on policy-making discussions regarding sustainable development. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon made the announcement at the Leaders Summit held in late September.

Kuroda received the Saruhashi Award for brilliant women scientists in 1993, and was named a Laureate of the 2013 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science awards.
